What technical details in sample photographs should I watch out for?
With superior photography, lighting is the major important ingredient. For key and feature shots the correct light is the first thing to find.
With enough skill and experience, the best photographers will work with natural light sources rather than flash. Photographs are made
with light and the way your photographer manipulates light will show their skill and judgment.
The well posed bridal portrait should show a high level of technical ability with a fine degree of attention to detail. If the photographer is doing
strange poses that look ‘twee’ then it shows that they do not have the technical ability for creative work.
Ensure reportage work tells the story naturally but with expression and as if the photographer was not even there.
What else should I look out for when I am looking at a photographer's samples?
It is important that you see a finished album of at least one wedding from start to finish, not just a collection of highlights from a dozen different weddings.
If the photographer has a high degree of skill do ask to see his portfolio as well. This will show their creative flare for those special feature shots in the album.
What can I do to keep the time down on my wedding day?
Find out how long the photographs you have requested are going to take; If it is too long, either cut out some of the required posed pictures or
consider some of the less important ones between speeches and first dance. Ensure that your hair stylist and make-up artist are professional enough
to not make you late for the photographers arrival. If this happens earlier photographs will now have to be captured later in the day.
Shouldn't my photographer have a designated back-up in case he/she is sick on my wedding day?
As professionals we network with a number of photographers who are of a similar standard (we all have Christmas lunch together and also car share
for seminars)
and we help each other out in an emergency. In the last five years there have been two emergencies where
our group have been there for support to ensure no problems for our customers.
